After traveling to Glantry City for a holiday, the heroes are asked by Glantry officials to travel to nearby Thornburg to find out why they have not been heard from for a couple of weeks. A small detachment of cavalry accompanies the heroes. They come across a group of bandits attacking a farmhouse. A mighty battle occurs where Dirk becomes separated from the group. He falls down after being shot by an arrow while charging the dwelling. Laying out in the open, he decides to sit up to see what is going on. He is shot by another arrow, and another, and another. Braving intense missile fire Josephine and Kain charge into the house. Josephine arrives just in time to see one of the hostages being thrown from the second story window. Oops
Now the house is on fire because Kain dropped the flaming oil down the stairs instead of throwing it into the room with the bad guys. The plan was to smoke the bad guys out from upstairs, not block the only way of retreat. The cavalry has now caught up with the heroes. Also at this point, Jones the Halfling becomes dead, only to be replaced by Ogg. Kain and Josephine leap out of the window to the ground below. The overall result of the encounter has a couple of heroes dead, some of the cavalry dead, and most of the bad guys dead.
It is decided that the remaining cavalry return to Glantry with the surviving farm people and get extra reinforcements to assist in restoring order to the area while the heroes continue on to Thornburg. Crossing through a grassy clearing the heroes witness a section of the tall grass part and move towards them. Leaping up from the grass are two tigers which unhorse Ogg and Kain. The heroes battle the tigers off. Ogg is pretty seriously injured. Unrau calls upon his goddess, Gwenwyachin, to aid his comrade and she does.
Arriving at Thornburg the heroes discover the place all closed up. Persuading the guards to let them in, they enter and make their way to the town hall. The heroes discover that no one leaves the town once they are inside. The fear is that there are lycanthropes in the countryside that prey on those who leave the city. No one leaves until the lycanthropes are caught. Ogg discovers that he has the beginnings of the disease as a result of the tiger attack. He keeps it a secret from the rest of the group. Catching some information about the disease he finds out about a place called the `The Hermitage'. The solution is there. A quick way out of town is needed because the threat of the full moon poses a concern to Ogg.
The heroes catch a break and are able to convince the Burgomeister that they are the ideal candidates to deliver a shipment of silver weapons to Sir Lance Vandric-knight of Glantry and lycanthrope killer. The whole town comes out to see the heroes off. All are given necklaces of wolfsbane. Ogg, having the early form of the ailment, is mildly affected by the herb. He begins sneezing, which he attributes to a cold. Upon attempting to drive the wagon the horses go wild (after all, they smell the beast that Ogg is becoming). Ogg blames the horse's demeanor on the fact that he is not comfortable around animals. He decides to ride on the back of the wagon. The story fools the towns people and the rest of the heroes too.
After a few days of traveling the heroes approach the Lapik River. On their descent into the river valley, the heroes are ambushed. The attackers are hiding in the trees shooting arrows at the heroes. Deciding to `make a run for it' the heroes drive the wagon down towards the river. However the steep approach and hairpin turn are too much for Unrau. The heroes are scattered and thrown down the embankment. Dirk makes a run for the bridge and is made unconscious once he gets there. The heroes are engaged in a lengthy missile battle. Kain and Josephine are able to find each other amidst all the large rocks that litter the area.
Ogg proceeds to the bridge in order to help his colleague Dirk. He discovers his fallen friend being looted by brigands. He fights them. More come up from under the bridge. Ogg is badly wounded and reverts to his tiger form. In tiger form he slays many of the rogues and drives the rest off. Ogg passes out. He awakens to find himself naked! Dirk awakens to see a naked Ogg; somehow Dirk is turned on by this... No, actually this didn't happen, I just wanted to see if you were paying attention.
Back at the wagon Kain and Josephine kill off enough of the rogues to send the rest fleeing. After taking a hostage they discover that they are `Baron' Brandt's men. Oh, by the way, the horses are dead-Brandt's men did that. Once the heroes are reunited Ogg explains his circumstances-`They must have looted me and left me for dead'. Once again the heroes believe this explanation.
Having no way of transporting the weapons the heroes agree that they are fucked (sic.). Ogg persuades them to continue to their meeting with Vandric at Cold Springs. Ogg wants to talk to the lycanthrope slayer about The Hermitage. Ogg tells the heroes to make haste in order to notify Vandric of the location of the weapons cache so that they can be recovered quickly. The party is turned off by Vandric's arrogance-so is Ogg. Ogg instead talks with one of Vandric's cronies-Mudface. Mudface recognizes Ogg for what he is. Ogg is told to travel to see the sphinx in the Spiky Mountains. The heroes decide that their work is done and its time to go home. Ogg is forced to tell the heroes of his plight. After much bitching and crying, the rest of the party agrees to quest on.
On the third day of travel the heroes hear Vandric and his men on the hunt. They assume correctly that Vandric wants them. The heroes are captured. They awaken to find themselves bound by rope and sitting atop a pile of firewood. The heroes are put on trial by Vandric and the Burgomeister. Mudface is the heroes' lawyer. The crowd in the amphitheater is comprised of jeering humans and animals. The long and short of it is that the heroes are found guilty and sentenced to be burned at the stake. Before the heroes are too well done they find themselves sitting in a clearing that is empty save for a lone man. The heroes are told that they were victims of the local pixies. From here the heroes meet the lovely Madame Esmerelda and Retch the Mongrelman.
Another day passes before the heroes come across a stud of a man steed by three wolves. They chase off the wolves and rescue the stranger. The heroes then kill the man after he changes into a wolfwere, summons back his buddies, and attacks the heroes.
From here the heroes travel to the base of the Spikys. Here they encounter Huttuculeese, the sex-changed androsphinx. She(he) will help if the heroes solve a few riddles. The riddles don't make any sense and are not solvable. The heroes get no help here. They continue on. The heroes discover yet another sphinx-Helen, a gynosphinx. Wisely choosing not to fight her, the heroes are able to befriend Helen. During light dinner conversation the gynosphinx mentions an androsphinx that she is looking for. The heroes deduce that this must be the sex-changed Huttuculeese. For that piece of information, the heroes manage to beg a favor of Helen-the location of The Hermitage.
After receiving detailed directions, the heroes are off again. Once in the mountains the come across a group of young mountain giants playing dwarvenball. There are two teams. The object is to throw a dwarf at the other group and see if they can catch it. After assessing the situation as too difficult, the heroes charge into battle anyway. They don't kill off any of the giants but manage to rescue a few dwarves. The heroes are taken to an underground dwarven city-Forgegate. After leaving with tokens of appreciation (dwarven weapons) the heroes come to a hermit's place. Probably The Hermitage. Not exactly. A rakshasa.
Believing the rakshasa (disguised as an old man) the heroes are told that they will be cleansed once they bathe in the holy pond. `But you must be unarmed as this is pure and propper'-or something to that effect. One at a time they were to leave the hut and go bathe. Dirk goes to bathe. The rest of the heroes are locked in the hut. They hear Dirk's screams and think: `Hey, wait a minute... Something is wrong.' The heroes break out and fight the rakshasa. Ogg flips out and goes into tiger mode. The tiger is dead and the rakshasa becomes dead later on. Unrau applies medication to Ogg and Dirk in order to make them less dead.
The heroes' next stop is a grassy, tree-lined meadow. This is very unusual-a clearing like this in the mountains. This must be the place. It is! An old guy named Zephram meets and greets the heroes. After hearing of the heroes' situation, Zephram agrees to help. He casts a powerful spell and separates the lycanthrope from the Ogg proper. The evil Ogg battles the good Ogg. No one thinks to help the good Ogg. The result is the good Ogg is dead. Completely stunned. the heroes watch the evil Ogg run away. Deciding that they have done enough damage, the heroes return to Glantry City less one...
